Reconfiguration of a poroelastic system

Poroelastic system (a Hasbro Koosh ball) subjected to a stream of air varying from 0 to 30 meters per second in a wind tunnel. Like a tree subjected to wind, this poroelastic system becomes more streamlined as the drag load increases.

Reconfiguration of a flexible rectangular plate

As the flow speed inside the wind tunnel is increased from 0 to 20 meters per second, the flexible rectangular plate bends down. As it does so, it becomes more streamlined and reduces its cross-sectional area.
See the paper “Drag reduction by reconfiguration of flexible plates” for more information.

Reconfiguration of a circular plate cut along many radii

As the flow speed in the wind tunnel is increased from 0 to 20 meters per second, the sectors of the disk bend down, hence making the object more streamlined and reducing its cross-sectional area.
See the paper “Drag reduction by reconfiguration of flexible plates” for more information.

Measuring the pressure inside a beer can with strain gauges

The calculations to obtain the value of the pressure inside the can are found in this extract from the measurement lab course notes (in french).
